The toyota conversion is only for 1st generation Zs, which do not have vented rotors. The ZX brakes are actually pretty good - much better than stock Z brakes. If you need to upgrade ZX brakes, you have to go aftermarket.

stock brakes suck!!!

I thought that I had seen someone change to the toyota on an 82, but I could be wrong. I disagree with the last two posts about the brakes being good. Once heated up, from high speed driving or racing they go to @!#$ and couldn't stop a speeding snail.

They aren't THAT bad

I run on the track with folks running stock brakes. They flush the system every season, and use good pads (Porterfield, Hawk, or other performance pad). They punish the brakes, and get good performance, even the Z's with solid rotors.

Re: They aren't THAT bad

I had that same brake problem on my 280zx. Flushed out all the old fluid and put in synthetic fluid and never had a problem again. You could use high performance pads and rotors but even with the stock setup you are better off than a Z with a 4 piston caliper with the small stock solid rotor. 280zx uses bigger vented rotors and pretty good disc on the back. You problem probably is the brake fluid heating up to much.
