im trying to check the timing on my '84 300zx non-turbo.

i can see the marks on the crankshaft, and there appear to be about 7 or 8 marks.

i can't seem to find any info for the 84's but i found that on earlier z's the furthest mark to the left (when looking from the front) is TDC, and each mark to the right was 5degrees BTDC.

1. is this still true on the '84?
2. where should the timing be set for an '84?

please respon to this post, or AIM = fearofisolation.

Thanks in advance!

You are correct, the '84's start at 0 and advance in 5 degree increments to 30 degrees. The service manual specifies 20 degress +or- 2 degrees at 700 rpm for both the na and turbo with manual transmission, except the V30E At high altitude condition is 650 rpm. The auto transmission is the same for the V30E (Both sea level and high altitude conditions) ie: 700 sea level and 650 High altitude. The V30ET (Turbo) auto is 650 rpm. All rpm measurements are +or- 50 rpm.

Good Luck,
RC
