Timing... I wonder

Simple Q.

Here's how I set my timing after swaping heads on my 77z.

Foun TDC, mounted chain sprocket on #1 position. Groove on cam is left of location notch on sprocket and the crank pulley timing mark falls right at 0* in relation to timing indicator bracket.

Is this what's called initial timing? If so should I advance it some or leave it alone

Thanks

First rotate the motor 2 revolutions. It IS better to have the cam a little retarded, like a worn chain would make it later on, then to have advanced cam timing which will run badly. Keep it on the retarded side, when it comes to cam timing. Initial timing means static IGNITION timing at let's say 6 degrees BTDC, like on an old Ford. Then the vac. advance comes in to play.
