Ok, doing my normal "open up the hood and find something to play with" thing today. And it finally just annoyed me to the point of I'VE HAD ENOUGH


Its comming from my rocker-arm cover ( i think thats what its called...says Nissan Turbo on it ) and it just keep ticking....tick tick tick tick DRIVING ME INSANE!!! WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP!!!

Adjest the valves. get the manual, it should tell you how to do it

could be injectors...

the valves are more of a knock aren't they? I know my 81 had really loud injectors but turns out all Z's have loud injectors (FI of course) cause my 83zxt has pretty loud injectors but not close to as loud as the 81 because the exhaust manifold had a broken bolt... anyway my 83 has a slight knock and apparently it's the valves...

So, to recap, it could be the following things (as mentioned above).

1)Misadjusted valves.
2)Normal Injector noises.
3)Poor quality/low oil.

and, not mentioned yet,

4)Leaking exhaust. (at the head, or at the collector).

You really do need a manual.

I just changed the oil with some Castrol, and a fram filter...so that aint it. I listened to the injectors, yah they tick....but not that much....adjust the valves eh?? sounds like FUN lol

Ooohh, ooh. One more.

Could be a coil wire / spark plug wire misfiring against ground. That makes a very nice tick, too. Looks cool at night.

Yah i checked for the Arc and everything a while ago when i first noticed it....i think their all right with the Valve Adjusment thing.

on my 1982 280ZX, the valves were adjusted, and the ticking continues. So if you adjusted the valves, don't worry about it. It adds a sound, only a Z can have.

Bet you a nickel we never hear what caused the tick.

Probably won't (the ticking that is). Mine does too, but I believe it's a valve..ain't got the b***s to mess with that one...foolng around with calipers, fuel pumps, and electrical is enough for me...

Well i put the screw driver near the injectors to listen to them, they do tick pretty **** loud.


So if not the adjusting needed on the valves ( which prolly needs to be done anyway ) its just noisy jects. Thanks for your help everyone
