March 30, 1999

Are you tired of rising gas prices? If you're in California like some of us, you
probably are probably FED UP with it. My local fillup spot has raised their
price of 92 octane from $1.16/gal to $1.99/gal in the past 2-3 weeks. Even
diesel fuel is up dramatically.

This showed up on our mailing list:

THE GREAT "GAS OUT"

It's time we did something about the price of gasoline in America! We are all sick and
tired of high prices when there are literally millions of gallons in storage.

Know what I found out? If there was just ONE day when no one purchased any gasoline,
prices would drop drastically.

The so-called oil cartel has decided to slow production by some 2 million barrels per
day to drive up the price. I have decided to see how many Americans we can get to NOT
BUY ANY GASOLINE on one particular day! Let's have a GAS OUT! Do not buy any
gasoline on APRIL 30, 1999!!!!! Buy on Thursday before, or Saturday after.

Do not buy any gasoline on FRIDAY, APRIL 30, 1999.

Wanna help? Send this message to everyone you know. Ask them to do the same.

All we need is a few million to participate in order to make a difference.

We CAN make a difference.

I'm curious, how much will it hurt the gas companies if we turn around and buy all the gas we would have gotten on Friday on Thursday or Saturday? There won't really be any change in the demand just the day that it is demanded.

Won't they still sell the exact same amount?

Trevor-
yes you are right, however the Gas Out is not supposed to cut into their profits it is merely to show that people can band together in opposition to unfair market practices. I will get gas the day before more then likely but no way will I get it on the 30th.

BTW I love your page! Keep up the good work!

RE: Gas prices

You Americans never stops surprice me.
I was **** excited last time in the US when we filled up a Mercury Cougar for less than $20.
I would be happy as a chimpanzee on a bananaboat if I could get fuel for $1.16!
Here in Sweden I pay approx $4.00 per gallon filling my Z up! (And my '67 Buick Riviera, and my BMW Bavaria...)
Thing is, don't feel pity for yourselves, but # 2, Protesting agains raised gasprices is alway a good cause... (we didn't, look what happened)So keep the spirit up!!

Best wishes

I'm all for showing them we don't like the prices but the email claims "If there was just ONE day when no one purchased any gasoline, prices would drop drastically. "

RE: just went up to .93 in atlanta, was .69

.93!!!!!

That was about the low it hit around here back before the jump.

This 'highly refined' California gas is about $1.87 for premium. The guy we buy the gas at work from said it should be dropping about 5 cents a week in the comming weeks. One of our main problems out here is our gas has to come from our refineries and one of them just had a major fire or something like that.

Econ 101-> Socialism=4$ per gallon(4 Marten)

Marten the reason gas is so high in your country is as you know the taxes levied by a socialist state. Your 4 bucks a gallon goes to pay for health care, the arts, and other socialist state programs...right? right! I am sure you know this but others around here do not so make sure to tell everyone the whole story next time. This is not a flame just an observation.... :)

I don't complain my gas prices. I love to drive my Z everyday and don't care how much they charge for gas.

By the way, we only pay $1.20 - $1.55 per gallon (about 4 liters). I feel for those in europe. They pay $1.00 - $1.50 per liter. Think that when zooming 150 mph on autobahn.

@#$%Confused, why April 30?

Why are we picking April 30 not to fill our gas tank, what will that solve, how will it do anything to reduced gas prices, just asking. Luckily I have a Civic and live 7 blocks from work and haven't driven my ZX since the increase.

YOU ALL DON'T KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE!!!

Here in Germany I'm now paying 1.71DM per LITER. That works out to $3.81 per gallon!!! It costs me as much as 97 Deutsch Marks to fill my 240-Z's tank. That's about $57.18 at the current exchange rate!!! Keep up the fight though, otherwise the U.S will end up with the same ridiculous taxes on fuel that the idiots over here seem willing to pay. Of course, maybe the reason they're willing to pay is because they don't have any guns (they're not allowed too). I had to leave both my Walther and my Glock (two fine German/Austrian pistols) back in the states when I moved here. BTW, don't let any liberal politician feed you any BS about the great "social services" Europe has because of their ridiculous tax rates - they have homeless people, gangs, and graffiti over here as well!

Of course, on the bright side, I can pass a police officer on the Autobahn at 220kmh (137mph)!!

count me in.

I probably would not think they were ripping us off if all stations charged about the same, But here in oregon where I work there is a 46Ct differance in one block and down the hiway it's even more. I feel for those in CA paying out more than me but it piss's me off when I get riiped off and lied too. There not fooling anyone, They are just GREEDY BASTARDS. Ok< I will get off my soapbox now.
Rob,
And by the way I spent 5 years in Germany and the autobahn was blast. Gas was a bit steep if bought on the economy but I was military and bought gas coupons on base at a better price (still more than stateside)

Heres what my Bro has to say about it

I sent him that webpage and this is what he has to say about it

______________________________________________

I thought it was funny, but the replies on the page you sent me were hilarious. Its amazing that people don't care whether it will work or not, but do it for the **** of it. I wish they would take there concerns to the government and get them to cut the tax which is the real thing that keeps gas prices so high. They might actually make some progress there.

____________________________________________

Im one of them people that would atlest try it
what is there to lose? a days worth of gas?
but he has a point about taking it to the government

Oh believe me i know...

i happen to know how lucky i am. the zip code i live in happens to be one of the highest insurance rate areas in northern california, if not all of california. the cost of living here IS NOT balanced out by the monthly income, and it cost almost $30 a full tank now. which is about what daily parking would cost.

God bless america =) and japan for the Z. haha

ENOUGH!!

Raising gas prizes always raises anger.
I've made my point in this discussion earlier,so I won't do it again.
Thing is, This board is about the Z car and for the people who works with them, owns them or just admire them.
Please don't fill this board up with political opinions!!

So drop this subject and spread the info elsewhere.

Lighten up Marten

Marten-
First this board is not yours or mine so stop telling people what they can and can not talk about. IMO we can talk about anything car related on this forum, not just Zcar related. EG. speeds/specs of other cars, gas prices, ticket traps, driving tips, speed stories, emission laws, ect...get the point? Enjoy the discussions. Afterall the best part about being in a representitive democracy is the free exchange of opinions/ideas.
