That "perfect" 83 silver ZX for sale question

1041 Views 13 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  erzelda
That silver 83 zx is just about what I'm lookin for.

Tell me, about how often does something like this come along? I mean, a "perfect" "factory-condition" 83 or older ZX? Or Z for that matter?

I'm presently doing research into this car's value as well as what I can get financed for & what, if any, offer I could make.

Any warnings/advice you have I will gladly accept with much gratitude.

Methinks the $12,500 is a might steep as he says he's had many emails but no bites yet.

Cars in very good condition come along every now and then. There are a lot of these cars in great condition, but most people hang onto them after putting the work into them to get them to said condition. There was a thread on here recently mentioning how Zs were getting pricey. Personally I think 12 grand for a car that is ready to go and will serve you for years with little routine maintenance is a **** good deal. People tend to balk at such "high" prices, but z owners can be stingy bastards. Good luck finding a classic muscle car in that condition for that price.

Don't think you can't negotiate though, there almost always is wiggle room. Keep in mind though that cars like that tend to stay on sale for a while, as it takes a special buyer to see the value in a 12 grand complete car over a 2 grand car in need of restoration.
I think it's at least twice the price it should be.

Call Kin Chan 281-373-1774 - tell him Col. Ed sent you.

Don't be in a hurry - nothing worse than paying out more and find the better deal a month later.

I agree, this ZXT is double in value........I can see the ZXT is nice and clean, low mileage with upgrades Pannasports etc etc and so many new parts but still, not for 12K!

I agree with jas280Z.. What price would you put on A car you can Get in and drive away? I paid 7k for my 300zx.. But there hasn't been a single serious problem outside of what one would expect after 120k miles... sure, you can get a Zx or what have you for like $700, but then expect to put like 10k into it to get it even close to Daily dependable driver status...
12k initial asking price for my piece of DOG. 7k was the selling a year and a half later, more than 10 yrs ago. All bets are off now for your price. Tell him 5k.
here is a nice restored ZXT and she is half the price!

She is Beauty, 6k?

For 6k one could buy a mid mile POS FWD cookie cutter undesigned spoonfed thing that gets one around with no style sole background or anything else.

""Daddy, why do you want to get such an OLD car?!"" <<< Priceless

O.K. I'll accept this, especially being new to this game. I do realize, though, this "it's worth this, no, it's worth that" banter falls largely into the realm of opinion. Really, anything is only worth what one is willing to pay, especially when it comes to old things and collectibles. BUT - this raises a question...What credence do you give to "book" values? In this case, NADA has this particular 280 ZXT at $10,175 ("High" value). Selling it at $12,500 sounds like a reasonable & fair price. And, if the owner of the car is correct (& I suspect he is), this ZXT' looks, operates, & drives like it just rolled out of the Nissan factory. That sounds better than showroom condition & the original MSRP is over $17,000. So, not trying to start an argument, just figure out what, if anything, to offer on this car.

O.K. I'll try to not be in a hurry, That's good counsel. Thanks.

Where do you get that this ZXT'''s asking price is double in value?
Ever seen that show Pawn Stars? There is Retail and there is actual price that dictates the sale, when you see "restored" you also see "repainted and new parts." Value can come out of somthing with more orignal parts or referbished matching number parts and who's owned it. Value can vary if things where done right or wrong too.

Yeb.... 6K.But she is with Auto tranny.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Value of a thing depends very much on which side of the coun ter you're on.

Our opinions come from a lot of looking and buying and wishing we looked longer before buying.

Again - get with a local Z Club - someone would be willing to look at that car with you. Or get a professional appraiser.

I just know of many good quality Z cars not nearly that high priced. Maybe in your market area. But look all over. Shipping a car half way across country doesn't cost that much - less than $1K and you may well save thousands.

Go slow and get all the info you can.

Save up $$$ in cash. When you're ready to buy - low ball and dicker - bid - horse trade - what ever in the local area.

Cash talks loud and is very impressive - but start low and don't put all your cash in one pocket. Show the owner you mean business.

And don't ever be afraid to walk away for awhile to get the deal that's right for you. I'm sure the seller has several people just jumping to get that car.

Go see if anyone is around. Make your best final offer and if no go - go away but be shure the seller has your number.
