I've heard different preferences regarding SU carb fluid. What is the best?

I used to use the oil from MSA, but I now use
3-in-1 with no difference in performance!

The oil reccomended by all the manuals I have and by most people who run SU's or Stromburg's is straight 20 weight. It is thick enough to prevent leaning out on hard acceleration.

I have removed my damper pistons due
to the fact car will run 1/8 mile one
tenth of a second quicker with them removed. That may not seem like much, but on the track when you are running in the 8s its about a car length!!The main reason though ,is that car revs above 4500 rpm much easier when temperature is
below 50 degrees. It was always slow to rev on cold mornings(20-30 degrees)
until engine warmed atf fluid in carb piston and reduced friction.I seemed to have same problem with Marvel mystery oil too.Anyway you might have a little more wear on vaccum chamber walls without centering action of damper rod so you may not want to try this. Also if you try this you will need to put some sort of weight in the carb piston cylinder or the car will tend to stumble and surge slightly.I drop a long screw in the hole that fits loosely and can be removed with a magnet easily. You might think this is pretty stupid but it has worked nicely for me last year and a half!! Later, norm

20 SAE - Fork Oil

I use 20w SAE as recommended in the manual.

The only problem was trying to locate same. I eventually discovered that 20w SAE oil is manufactured for the front suspension forks for motor cycles.
