Man I bought a new sending unit to put on my car today. I drained the oil, took the old filter off and no matter how I tried I coudln't get a wrench on the back of that thing to unscrew it to save my life! What size is the bolt on the back? On the replacement I got it's a 9/16 but I dont know if thats the size in the one on there cuz I coudln't get a wrench around it!

Should be metric. I think I used 14 or 17mm

There are two sizes I have found so far.
The thread sizes on the engine is the same on both.
I forgot what size it was but a standard size did the job for some reason, maybe it the bolt is dirty and the metric wouldn’t fit. Best thing to do is remember some require a larger wrench (two sizes OD same size ID).
I, like many of us can’t put our finger on the size, but it does come off.
Use standards and it comes off.
Don't be put off it the new one has a metric, it should.
Keep your cool and it will come off.
