I'm here on bended knee to beg for your expert help on this one guys.

A couple of days ago I posted a message about several lash pads popping out from under the rockers of my freshly rebuilt L28 engine after only several minutes of run time. I went through and checked all of my rocker clearances and they were right on. So I put the valve cover back on and cranked the engine. I'll be DAMNED if I didn't hear the SAME NOISE AGAIN! Took valve cover off again.

This time no loose lash pads. So I took the plugs out and turned the engine over with the valvecover off.

The #6 intake valve is sticking in the down position. Then as the cam comes around it releases upward with force and causes a really loud CLACK as the valve and lash pad hit the rocker and cam lobe. I suspect that the other valves were doing the same thing and that's why I lost 3 lash pads soon after I first started the engine.

Is this my fault? Did the guys at the machine shop put something together wrong? Do I have bent valves? Is there an easy fix? or do I have to take the head off and back to the machine shop? Should I ask for my money back? Is this something I can prove they did wrong? I hate to accuse them of something, especially since I don't know that much about engine rebuilding, but ****, I paid A LOT of money to have those valves worked on!

Hoping some can advise

Sounds like a fine mess, and your heart must of skipped a couple of beats when you found out they were sticking.
I don't know exactly how much work you had done to you head, did you go with a bigger cam and springs? is it possible the springs are binding up when they get compressed? I ran across that one on a friends v-8, wrong springs, seats for springs not reamed to accomodate their diameter,I would be really surprised if the shop installed the valves with inadequate stem/guide clearances.
Myself,I would pull the head
(the last thing you want to hear) and get it checked out by another shop if you don't trust this one to admit a mistake (if one was made).
If I remember right(happens)
you said that you had a mechanic
friend help you before, get him over to see what is happening before you take the top end off
(witness) he may have an idea or two also.
I would be very nervous about not taking the head off at this
point. you may have caught it before any damage to the pistons
was done, but maybe not the valves.
I wish you good luck,

yours in rum,riot and crime.
