So i bought a 1979 280zx for 100$ and took off the enkei wheels , while at the junkyard i got a 300$ sony blackout flip open cd player for 50$, i went to get it installed and told there was no harness and id have to cut them and hardwire them, i started and was pretty easy, ground wire, positive, 8 speaker cords but there were 2 more that i couldnt find where to put, while tryin to configure them i turned the car to accesory and a small puff of smoke came out so i think i might of blown it, anyways wut other wires need ot b connected? thanks
Even if your car is not equipped with a power antenna, the wire might still be there because the factory put one there in case the car would be optioned with one. I dont know if you need this but a great way to find out which speaker is which is to single out the chassis ground, continuous power, and turn on power(test light or multimeter). Take a small battery and touch the wires to it to complete the circuit. The speaker will make a popping sound when you get one right. Mark it, and go on to the next wires. Beware of phaze differences though. When you touch the battery to the two wires and the speaker moves forward, the positive lead on the battery is the speakers positive wire and vice-versa. If you cant see the speaker, GENTLY place a toothpick or similar in the grill till it touches the cone, mark it, then put the toothpick back in the same spot. If the line is out from the grill, you have the + and - right. If the line goes in, you have them backwards. Phaze differences can be benneficial if you know how to use them, but stock speaker placement in the 280ZX's really doesn't require messing with it.
