The speedo in our 1980 280zx seems to have a problem. Well seems is a little friendly, the **** thing doesn't work. It moves still, actually it spins around in circles endlessly, and the speed it moves varies with how fast you are going. If you are wondering how it can spin in circles, the needle broke in half from the force of the spinning. Anyone got any ideas, I was thinking maybe one of the speedo cables was screwed up or something, help, the clicking is getting annoying! Also, isn't there suppossed to be a "lady" who talks to you? She hasn't' said a word yet.

Ahhh, the click of death!!

Sounds like you have a bad case of what I was having... although mine never made it completely around! What it did was bounce around 20mph either direction of the speed I was actually traveling. Sometimes I'd come to a stop and it would stick on 30mph. And all the while made an annoying click, click, click, click and did so faster as speed increased. Well I decided to check things out and make sure everything was connected before I go buying unneeded parts. So if you take the lower dash cover off below the steering wheel you can see back by the firewall where the speedo comes into the cabin. It connects to an 8 inch line that goes to the gauge. I disconnected this here and pulled out the metal bendy rod that goes to the gauge and cleaned some of the goop off the ends. I reseated this bendy rod back up into the gauge and reconnected it to the main cable and cranked the connector real tight. To my surprise, the next morning I had a quite working speedo. Oh, when you pull the bendy rod, check the ends and make sure they are more of a square and not rounded off. Hope this helps you case, cause I understand how annoying that click is!
