Everyone has been so helpful with my electric troubles that I thought I would go for a bit of engine help. Thanks to everyone for helping to get the car on the road. She is running good except when I tach her high going down the road she starts to skip at about 5.5 on the tach. She still climbs in speed and power but she skips and even back fires. She just had a valve adjustment and carbs rebuilt and set up. When this happens the tach jumps all over everywhere as well. Tells me it is something electrical in the firing. Love some help. Thanks Scott

Well at that rpm you are just about at the end of the power band BUT I would be looking at the distributor for cracked or misadjusted stator and pickup, also make sure that plugs are PERFECT and wires, cap and rotor too. If running platinum, I recommend changing them for NGK standard plugs non-resistor and check all connections at the coil and ballast resistor for cleanliness. It is possible that the electronic ignition box is going away but I would reserve that as a last ditch item.

at 5.5 you are nowhere close to the 6.5 you should be as far as revs. remove ditributor cap and try to move shaft side to side, if it will move than it will either have to be replaced or have bushings installed. also, check the coil there is a remote chance it is bad.

Try checking to make sure your points arent jumping. My 71 was doing that until I had my points set exactly. Just my ideas anyways cause I know the points are really really picky on my car. Good luck. Mark

Mark thanks for the input. Wish i could do the points to see but mine is electronic ignition. I know how to trouble shoot the point systems but not sure where to look on the electronic and I hate to just replace stuff.
