Hi all, just want ed to give an update on the six speed conversion I am trying to do. There are a number of possibilities here. First the ZF6 speed trans will not work. The input shaft is to short, but they also make a ZR6 that may work, the input shaft is longer. The biggest problem with the ZF tranny is that the input/main shaft is not center on the tranny housing, it is off to the right about 1 1/2-2" so that is a problem, also the shifter is not centered on the tranny input/output shaft and it is to the left about 2" so to do this install on a stock car and make it fit right without hacking the floor up is not possible.
I have directed my attention to the T56 and now here are some possibilities. I found a web page that does the T5 to T56 conversions. This place has an adapter plate that will bolt to the stock bell housing and that is looking promising. I am going to send them a stock bell housing and they will see if it can do the job. I will send them the specs of the input shaft oriontation in regard to where the input shaft needs to be positioned in the bell housing mating surface to the engine. This conversion will enable me to utilize the stock clutch throw out bearing configuration. So we will see if there is a workable situation here.
The last possibility is going with a richmond tranny and again there are the considerations of the input shaft length. The tranny for the ford seems to fit the bill for the length, with the use of an adapter, but I need to get the information to Richmond to get clairification on that option as well.
That is where I am at right now, hopefully there is a solution that will not be to expensive and all of us can benefit from this, if not, then I guess we can stock a supply of Borg/warners to replace when we blow them up.
