Im thinking of buying a 280zx 82 model, the body is in good condition from the looks perspective. I need to know what things are likely to go wrong with the car in the future, if it is expensive to buy parts for in Australia, and what to look out for if i decide to buy the car. They are asking $6000. Also just all around general information about the car. In addition how much would it cost to refurnish the interior. Thanks for your time.

it cost me $220 for my carpet kit from JCwitney,my seat(my mom recovered them) were $100 bucks for the seats, and $60 for teh fabric to put on them. my dah was cracked so i got a full hard dash cover tat as $90 and fits very well. i invested about 20-25bucks in Vynal pait to make everything match, but if u us the paint make sure to get all the aromor all, etc.. off or the paint will peel off(i have to repaint parts of my interior because i became impatient) i also put a new head liner in it the frabic was $30 and i got the glue for free.

Things you should look out for, rust, rust, rust, and rust. More than likely this will be the only problem you will come up against if the car runs pretty good. I've had mine for 2 years and 3 months and thats the only thing I have had any problems(my Z gives new meaning to the word rust) with besides minor stuff like new battery, alternator, brakepads, and a small electrical problem. Other than that my car hasnt done me any wrong its been a great car.

Zs in Australia

Hi Johnny,

Good car those 280zxs... I bought my first one near 2 years ago. Onto my second as the first was rusted out.

Look for rust:
infront of and behind all 4 wheels (quarter panels)
wheel wells
lift the foam in the boot and check for rust underneath (also see if the foam is wet - sign of bad seals - will cause rust quicker)
Around the fuel cap
In the roof

I've had quotes for $1000 to redo the whole interior - new carpet, recover the seats, and the doors.

If you're going to pay $6,000, that should get you a rust free car here in Australia. Either that, or one that doesn't need any work other than rust.

cheers and good luck
