I thought that would get you attention. Does anyone know what that little red button under the stereo on a 280z is for? Mine has two grey wires that come from it that have been cut or something. Maybe something just left over? I tell everyone who gets into my car and asks me about it that it's a self destruct button.

Oh well, just wondering!

thanks

No, it does the same thing as the red button on the shift knob of the Ford in the movie Men In Black.

Tired of the crap Mike? You just want a straight answer, **** it!! Right!I

I know it's not the flux capacitor switch. They didn't show up until '82zx's. I think it's a smart bomb like the old defender video game. That would be the right vintage anyway. Try it next time your in traffic!!!

Just kidding! I had that on a '76 z I had and never did know what it was for and neither did anyone else.

On my 78 280 there are two lights and says fasten seat belts and the other says defroster. They are located under the stereo. One blue one red. Under that are three switches: defroster, hazards, power antenna. As for a red switch, it must be either the smoke screen or the ejection seat.

Well, I think I've got it narrowed down for you.

It could be:

1. 4 wheel drive
2. differential lock
3. torque amplifier, like on a good ol Farmall!!!

But seriously, **** if I know.

In my 82 280zx there was a small red button and I don't know what it was for but it was hooked up to an alarm that I ripped out when I bought the car. Maybe its the same on yours???

Another Mystery Switch

I thought that was for the gatlin gun for heavy traffic use. maybe it is the oil squirter for outrunning cops. Just hook it up to a snow plow attactment and go house to house making a couple extra bucks in the winter:)

My 83 has this switch on the drivers side panel that is right above the legs, going under that space. It is actually hooked up to vaccuum, anyone know what that is. I have asked around for three years and never gotten an answer.

Okay, Try this test out.

Get a alkaselster, Go out to the expressway, Make sure that a cop is in range. Get up to about 100mph push the red button, I Repete push the red button. If the cop does not notice you it,s a type of cloaking switch. If he does notice you and pulls you over, Place the alkaselster in your mouth and start grabing at your throat when he gets to your car. Let us know what happens. Good luck
I think that it's from a alarm that the P.O. took out before he sold it.
