I have a 74 260 4spd. well the shifter has a lot of play , so
last night i pulled it out of the garage and took for a spin.
i stoped at a light and hit the gas 1st 2nd and and and **** i missed 3rd
so next light RED [ my luck} well i could not put it in gear , every gear was so
hard to shift is not the clutch or the press plate the're new.

may be it's time to go to a 5spd, from what year will it be a straight bolt up?
and how much money from a wrecking yard, or anyone has one for sale in dallas tx?

thanks, manny.

Bushings, man, bushings...

Before you throw that thing away, just throw some new shifter bushings in--the three nylon things. Very easy. You will have to remove your center console--unless your shift boots are gone. Less than $20 from the dealership. You won't believe the difference. Like a brand new tranny!

Manny, Do You Copy!

Be sure to check your clutch hydraulics working right. Usual first suspect in hard shifting. Have someone work the clutch pedal while you check the slave cylinder stroke. There's a spec on this in FSM. 1-3/8" for 260 if I recall right.

Good luck!
