Howdy folks! Tomorrow I'm want to investigate a valve noise
while the engine's running, but I'm not sure if I can run the
engine with the valve cover off or not. It's kind of at a slant
and the OHC makes it a little more sloppy than my other
cars.

Has anybody else done this? Does it spray oil all over, or is
it okay?

Thanks a ton!

I tried it on my 77 and the problem is that the cam chain pulls oil up and out all over the thermostat housing. The rest of the motor is not bad at all. If you put a bunch of rags their you could do it for a few seconds. Have someone else standing by the ignition to shut it off as soon as you identify the source of the noise.

BTW
Mine is still clicking too!
