Just got back from a 10 day trip in my 04 6 speed Touring Roadster. Just before I left I got a service engine soon warning lite that turned out to be a bad throttle control sensor sending conflicting data to the computer according to the service department. I used to get ~24 mpg using the cruise control on long highway drives at about 80 mph. After this service I now get 26-28 mpg readings according to the Z's readout which I confirmed at fillups. **** even hit 30 mpg going over independence pass in CO. Don't know what to make of this, as there is no less power. I thought the EPA rating was only 26, never heard on anyone exceeding that. On the other hand, somewhere in Colorado, when I filled up, instead of going about 1/8 in. above the full mark where it usually goes, it only went up to 7/8 full. MPG readings aren't , it just seems like I've got a few gallons less capacity in the tank. I've read about the problem with the filler valve failing, which I'm guessing is whats occurred. I'll be interested to see what my mpg readings are in town driving now that I'm back in CA. Used to get ~18 or so.

Its no fluk about the higher mileage. The wife and I just returned last night from Holliday in the Z and the worst that we got was 28.5 on one fill up and thats doing the math at each gas stop,

I took my 2005 Z on a 175 mile trip to Decatur, IL (Mspeasl: anywhere near you?) and made it on a half tank without the light ever coming on. I was shocked and pleased. My Z actaully does better on the highway than my 4cly 2001 accord. IMO its that the Z is more efficient at higher speeds.

I drove from Los Angeles to Phoenix, Arizona and was getting around 37 mpg after my first fill up. I was driving around 70~ and also noticed the Z likes highway driving just like any car but more so. I on average I get 18~ in the city. Go figure.

No doubt about that. We bought the 6 cyl Accord for that reason. It gets >30 at highway speeds and doesn't work nearly as hard at the 4. Of course it runs on regular and not premium though. In the Z, I can cruise at 77-83 at >3000rpm in 6th with plenty of power to pass if necessary in that range. Set on cruise, and the Z seems to be stuck at the set speed. Even noticed on this trip "engine breaking" on steep downhills as if the controller was limiting gas to the engine to slow the speed and maintain the set speed. A little unsettling until you get used to it.

The engine map on our VQ35s can really lean out the mixture once the throttle stays partially open in overdrive. That and a 0.29-0.30 Coefficient of Drag allows the Z to be very efficient on the highway. My last trip from Colorado to California saw my mileage vary from a low of 29 to above 34 MPG! All that from a car that will also do an honest-to-God 157 MPH if you give it WOT for a few miles (but you won't get good mileage, trust me).

David, I believe you! on US 50 in Nevada (the loneliest road in America) I hit 125 mph at only 4500 rpm.
