I have a 72 L24 engine that I am preparing for road racing. I want to remove the thermostat and install a restricter plate. I have the OEM water pump and standard size pulleys. What size opening should be in the restricter plate to prevent cavitation in the water pump and have the proper flow?

I took a stock thermstat and removed the center portion and installed the housing in both my prepaired 260Z, and my vintage raced Jaguar E-Type. This setup has worked great on both cars.
