Removing and replacing lower steering shaft bushing

Hey everyone I’ve been having a lot of steering play and I did a bit of inspecting and it turns out it is the black rubber bushing just above the clamp with the bolt, there is also a u-joint just above it that is covered by the black boot in the foot well. Would I be able to remove that U-joint to remove the whole lover half? Or is there another way to replace that bushing?

Hi there,
I have a similar problem, the rubber bushing is missing in my car (attached pic) and I think it is allowing heat inside the car. I hope the members can share with us how to replace the rubber I am about to get a new one from Japan.
good luck brother, best regards,
Abdullah

I managed to remove the bushing but it took removing the whole steering column which was very easy other than disconnecting the wires. The part I’m replacing is a rubber bushing used to dampen vibrations. In the third picture I removed all the old rubber to see if I can just put another bushing but I can’t find any that fit so I might just have to pull one from the junkyard when one pops up, good luck!
