I have a 72 240 and I am trying to remove the half shafts and differential to put in a 3.90 differential. I have removed the 4 nuts from the side flange by the differential and also removed the 4 nuts and bolts out by the tire from the flange. There is no bolt in the middle on the yoke flange by the differential. Also, the differential is loose on the front mount. How do I remove the half shafts? From the differential side or tire side and how? I keep reading just to pull and they will come out, I must be missing a step.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

hay dude,

get a tough metal pole and some wire.

put the wire up through the bolt holes on the wheel side flange and then twist the ends of the wire around the pole. yank as hard as you can and they should come right out. that is what i had to do when i worked on this car i have that used to be on the east coast.

I also use a great big flat head screw driver and put it right in the flange and give it a couple of taps with a hammer, always came right apart for me

if you have to pry them off make sure you replace the seals if not yank the **** out of it it wont hurt it
