Could anyone help identify a noise coming from the rear end of my 74 260Z? It seems to happen intermittantly while under power or de-accelerating - but not all the time. It sounds like a low pitched whine that changes pitch with the speed of the car. I can see nothing rubbing. Any ideas?

Sounds like gear whine. Die you check the oil level in the differential? do you know the last time it was changed? If your answer to both questions is no then you need to go ahead and drain the oil and replace it to the proper level. It is not unusual to get some whine from these cars. After all, they are often older than the people driving them. If it continues and gets worse it will become more obvious what the real problem is and what you'll have to do about it.
