I am talking about the intake/exhaust manifold gasket and lining up the manifolds and gasket to the head, so that after ported and hen ready to bolt up the manifolds, all the ports line up perfectly and are smooth, no ridges.

To hold the gasket just to mark I could use copper gasket coat, it works very well also. This is more of a manifold alignment idea.

Use pins to align. 1/8 inch ones should be fine. ideally the gasket should be slightly larger than the port. Trying to max out the port to exact gasket size will cause slight lip at the gaskey surface.
