It's the Transmission
Do you know what model year the transmission came from? Starting in 1980 the ZX 5-spds had different 1st & 2nd gear ratios than the 77-79 models. If you didn't change the differential to a 3.90 from your stock 3.545 you would lose the uumph coming out of the hole. That is probably where you lost it. I'll bet that your engine rpm at highway speeds is pretty low too, isn't it? LIke less than 2,000 RPM at 50 MPH in 5th?
