Those numbers are the compression ratios (the amount of air that is compressed per stroke) for instance 10:1 means that the air is compressed to 1/10th of its normal size..........thus raising pressure created when the spark plug ignites.................in other words more compression ratio = more power

yes, but if you go much higher than a 10:1 you will be dipping into the area where race gas will be required. If you dont go to race gas past 10:1 then you will actaully lose power do to pinging. Im not sayin if you run over 10 you have a higher octane but you are getting to about the limit for regular pump gas.
