What's considered to be a "normal" reading for an ammeter gauge. Mine starts out reading approximately +10 to +15 right after starting the engine. After the engine warms up the gauge drops and hovers just above the positive mark. Any input would be appreciated.

It is operating normally. The way it works is that the ammeter measures currant in the charging system (versus voltage in the battery measured by a voltmeter). When you first start the car the charging system has to replace the charge used by the starter so current flows at a high rate until the battery is charged back up. The current then declines to the ammount being used by the ignition and other electrical systems on the car. Turn on the headlights and the ammeter should read higher, as the lights use a lot of electricity. The reading will vary according to the demand.

Hope this helps....

RE: Question on ammeter

Thanks alot for the info - it's nice to know that this is one thing I don't need to worry about right now.
