The power steering of my 90 N/A builds resistance when I turn and makes a squeeking noise. The power steering fluid seems to be leaking, also. I took it to the local dealer and was told that all three hoses, the pump, and the steering rack need to be replaced. That's a total of $3000 including labor. I asked whether the problem could be localized but they said that everything needs to be replaced. Can I trust them or should I get a second opinion? Any advice or suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Find a place that will diagnose you correctly. If this happens to be the correct diagnosis, are you a DIY kinda guy? You can get all of those parts for probably less than $1000 from Coz. If your high pressure PS hose is leaking, be sure to check the alternator too, as they have a tendency to leak into it.

Definitely get a 2nd opinion. Find a Z specialist if you can.

I called the dealership once to get a quote on resealing my 2 exhaust valve covers, and they said $839 for labor.
Later, I take the car in to have the oil leak traced for sure. They find out that it's the turbos, but that the exhaust valve covers seem to be leaking minorly. On my receipt, it said "Recommend replacing valve cover seals, approx cost - $1550"..... yeah.. $839 eh? Some dealerships will have honest technicians, others will do their best to drain your bank account as fast as possible.

Thank you all for your help!
One more quick question: Does anyone know a reliable Z-car specialist in the Connecticut or New York area where I can take my baby..?

go to www.RZTperformance.com I think that is his website....I am not sure of how close he lives to you, but they do excellent work.

We are located at 108 Glen Cove Avenue, Glen Cove, New York and offer a wide variety of services for the 300ZX. We are one of the only shops on Long Island specializing on the Nissan 300ZX. Not only are we dedicated to 300ZX's, but in addition we also modify and maintain other import cars such as: Toyota's, Honda's, and Mitsubishi's. You can call us at (516) 676-1800.

2001 posting (n0t sure if they are still around?)
Hey everyone, I know you guys have probaly heard of Paisly Automotive (Craig Paisly's '97 Supra racecar) but has anyone had and experience with them. I want to get the timing belt and water pump and all that crap done. I went down to the shop, and they charge $65 an hour, which really isn't THAT bad here in NY. I'm sure they do great work, but the shop area is a little small, and wasnt that impresive, but is was nice to see a '96 Supra (nitrous and all) getting it's sprockets and belt done. That gave me a little more confidence. It's great b/c they are right around the block, and stand by there work, should I let them take care of my car, or what?
