On my 1979 280zx 2+2 there is a power cord like that you would normally see on a deisel engine to plug it into a standard wall jack. I could not find anything about this in my haynes manual and was just wondering about it. My brother said that it was used to allow the engine block to cool down slowly. Any information would be great. thanks.

Walsh189 and shaver are probably right, one other possibility comes to mind.

Someone may have put in a trickle charger if they let the car sit long periods often like a travelling engineer. I am one of those, often leaving the car unattended for more than a month. It is nice to not have to deal with a dead battery when you are ready to roll.
