Well I thought it was about time I posted some pics up here!

My Z is an 85 Turbo. It has a JDM VG20ET which is running 10psi through an intercooler. I love it! Theres hardly any in New Zealand (where I live) so I often get questions about it. And always stop if I see another old-school Z car driving around ;)

On to the pics:

If you look hard at this one you can see my Z keyring - I cant recommend it to anyone, looks good but so so easy to stick yourself with it!!

The old carpet bits of the door panels were replaced with some nice black suede ;)

The sounds come from an iPod (but I still have the original radio installed because it looks so **** cool)
The amp lives in the spare wheel well. Its usually hidden by the cover, I just took off to take the picture!

The sub box took lots of time to measure and make (probably because im really bad at woodworking!) but it didnt fit too badly in the end.

A pic of the engine

nice car. so this is basically a Fairlady 200ZG right?

wow, first VG20ET I've ever seen. cool.

You're PCV hoses are not stock... how does that set up work and what was the point of it? I've seen a lot of people put breathers on but you have hoses going to something...

2 liter v6, man that's tiny :) That's a pretty sweet looking car, 'cept the whole backseat thing. I like those wheels and the steering wheel. What's it like having a Z where the hatch stays open by itself?

heh, the hatch only stays up when its dry, in damp weather it comes straight back down (yes, on my head).

As the the bonnet, well lets just say I have a handy broom handle in the garage ;)

Thank you for posting the interesting pictures. I had also never seen a picture of the VG20E's. That was veyr interesting! It looks almost identical except for the name plate. At least from the picture I wouldn't have been able to notice a difference but perhaps in person it appears to be slightly smaller.

Thanks again for the posts, you have a nice looking 85 and a unique set up at that!

That's exactly how it is here in OZ aswell :) Good to see some kiwi's making a prime choice in cars! Looks real tidy, nice ride. Red goes faster too! Hehe...

I see you have an iPod hooked up (because you said so, and I also see its charger in the outlet). I was thinking about rigging an iPod in my car in a more perminant fashion (yet still remove it for song update ect. I'm interested to know exactly how you hooked yours up and where you have it located.

hey, thanks for the comments. Stu the engine is identical as far as I know from the outside.

The rims (Kreuzer) I got second hand for cheap ;)

The iPod, well I had a couple of attempts to rig it up.

Firstly I used a modified car phone cradle, mounted on the dashboard just to the left of the console. Well when I say to the left, its to the right for everyone who drives on the wrong side of the road ;) Towards the centre of the car anyway!

That worked pretty well and was easy to take out and put in the box between the seats when I parked the car. But after a while I decided I didnt like the look of it and didnt want a big sticky mark on the dash if I left it too long. So now it just sits in the coin tray in front of the mirror adjusters. Not really permanent, but easy enough to use. I have a cable which comes out at the iPod. It goes under the carpet, under the back seat then under the boot carpet to the amp. Just a 3.5ml plug on the end of a long stereo cable, nothing fancy ;)

I did wonder about cutting out one of the air vents in the dash (I have one that doesnt work anyway) and putting the iPod in the gap as my iPod is about the same size. Never got up the courage to actually try it, but if I ever find a Z31 in a junkyard (like that will ever happen!!) I might give it a go

Stu, what's the deal with the PCV hoses? where do they lead? some sort of oil catch can or something?

looks pretty sweet tho man... i've only heard of a vg20et once before seeing this, definitely a rare car:)

however, i find it interesting that it's got the 4 lug wheels rather than the 5 lugs... weren't the 85 turbo's equipped with 5 lugs or am i mistaken?

Like others I didnt realize there was a Z31 with a 2L engine. Very interesting. How is it for power? Do you have any personal stats or generic 2L stats?

Very nice looking car man. The turbo badging threw me off without the hood vent like we have here in the US.

Like what you did with the door panels. I am redoing mine this winter (US winter) and may steal some of your ideas there.

**** I loved New Zeland, visited there once. Absolutely beautiful.

Z ON....
