Permanent Removal of Rear Seats in 1983 280ZX 2+2

In my 1983 280zx 2+2 restoration, I'm considering permanent removal of the rear seats. If you've done this, can you post / email / pm pics? Other than needing to create a hard board / plywood "floor" for this area to put carpet over, would this result in exposing areas of the sides of the car, trim, etc. that would need to somehow be covered, modified, etc. for appearance / aesthetics?

One reason I'm considering this is to use the area for a sub-woofer and sub-woofer amp, covered / hidden storage area, etc.

Thanks.

Its carpet under the seats, I never pulled them out but I moved them out of the way when I was in a junkyard ZX, so are you trying to maximise the space usage in the back or do you just hate backseats.
If you take the back seats out of a 2+2, then you will be driving an ugly car for no reason at all.

I still used the seats as storage. When you lift the seat, there is a little cavity.

JGW: I thought you were 41 yrs old. Why on earth do you want a sub woofer? Other than going boom boom boom and drawing attention to yourself from the po po, it really does not enhance the music. (My son has a big one in his pathfinder...big freaking deal...I get to chide him all the time...BUT...even he is considering ditching it.) Besides, As BGM pointed out...where will you put the ho's?

Did I say 41, really 43! When I'm done with the car (are we ever done?), I figure it's going to college with my oldest son (he is a junior in H.S. currently). Doesn't every college kid want a sub-woofer? Anyway, I like tight base (as does my son), not just boomy ghetto base. I spent way too much time and money designing / installing my home theater system, and learned a lot about speakers, sound, frequency response, etc. Even with good 6x9's, they will can't give great sound. But, if the 6x9s are restricted to 100hz + , and the sub handles 20-100, and it is tight base, that sounds good. This is not how most people put an audio system together I know, but it's what I have in mind.

You sir, are obviously not an audiophile and are content to have Krako 6X9's reproduce a lot of midrange. Without at least a single dedicated amp subwoofer, there is NO WAY you will get accurate reporduction of dynamic range of most forms of music.

I have had at least a single 10" Dedicated Subwoofer in each serious stereo car I've owned. The Z presents special challenges to packaging them, and dual dedicated 8" drivers fit nicely in a box as he suggests. But it's not the same as a 10" for impact.

I don't have 'rattle the fittings' ghetto base... Ted Nugent demands his bass notes feel like someone hitting you in the kidneys with a cricket bat. If you can't play it loud and feel bass like that, you are not accurately reproducing the music as it's intended.

I'm older than 41. My first ducted subwoofer was bought in 1979, and was driven by a biamped Harmon Kardon at 280WPC. Kiddy stuff compared to what I have in my tow vehicle now. I like my music accurately reproduced. And that means a subwoofer! (At least one!)

The ghetto loose flappy bass makes me sick. Terrible system. Always lament the waste of components on people not interested in reproduction, but just making noise.

"Hey, you're the guy with the VW van everybody can hear for 1/2 a mile before you show up, right?"

Yeah, that's me. With the windows closed.
