like i want it a diffrent color something that stands out
i wouldn't recommend painting the block or the head black. it hides the leaks, know what i'm saying? if you got oil leaks, it's better to be able to identify them and where they are coming from.
on my Rebello stroker motor i used to have, they had painted the block black... i still can't figure out why they used black.
believe it or not, the duck egg blue that Datsun used on the blocks originally looks pretty good on a cleaned up motor. i couldn't find this particular color, so i just used ford mustang blue and it turned out quite nice.

here's a pic of my 280z -

you goober! you CAN"T have my hood, but here's another pic ;D
I was thinking "that's a beautiful Z" Oh wait... Body kit... Modified Hood... ehh not my style. VERY well done however. I go for the less is more method, body kits add weight. My car is currently flat black with a few small rust holes, you probably don't care about my opinion anyways.

I like orange, black, red, or green on S30's. As long as there is no metal flake (unless you have a shade of gray). Metal flake looks tacky, every car these days has metal flake paint. Be different, go with non metallic. If you want to be totally unique, go with a gray without metal flake. I've only seen two cars (all cars) with nonmetallic gray paint in person. White makes the hood look too long. I would definately paint the engine bay the same color as the car, otherwise it will look like you had an unproffessional, semi complete paint job.

Not at all, my friend...
to me a Z is a Z and just owning one is a pleasure.... stock, modified, rusted, ugly paint, pretty paint... you name it, at least you can call one - yours!
i like the kits on the Z and actually i am not a real big fan of the L-88 hood mod, but i do like how it looks on my car.

here's my other Z - not as fancy, but i like it. all stock except the wheels, kit, and headlight covers.

Let me reiterate, IMO, if the engine bay is not the same color as the car, it looks like a cheap paint job gone bad. Painting the firewall and fenderwell the same color actually highlights the engine. Duplicolr GM blue is very close to OEM and as stated will allow you to pick up on oil leaks.
Palladin, I don't agree with you on that. My car has a blue/black color combo (blue body with black spoiler, flares, skirts, mirrors, etc.) and I think that the black engine bay really sets it off when I open it. Although the inside of my hood is black as well, which helps the colors flow.

You know, in a few years when my boys are old enough to start helping me in the garage, I think I will use that color coded idea.

"No kid, if it is yellow it's fuel related! I want you to work on the red vacuum lines." :)
^^^ um the red lines are the sparkplug wires....
Well, sure, his are - but...but...but I would make my vacuum lines red. And my sparkplug wires .... purple, yeah, purple.

...

Yeah, that's it.

<grumble> make me look silly in front of the internet</grumble>

:)
Yeah, I have to get new spark plug wires one of these days, and the yellow rail is already gone. I knew that I would be replacing the rail within a year, so I just hit it with what ever paint was handy when I was putting the car back together. No reason to spend a lot of time cleaning it if it was only going to be visible for a couple of hours for one season.
