How critical is the oxygen sensor in the EFI system - will it stop the ability of the Z to start and idle. I appreciate practical information - not what the book says. Restoring 83 280zx Thanks

I have an '81 turbo injection system on my '71 240Z. It will not start if the O2 is disconnected. However, once its running, I can disconect it and it will still run fine. I'm not sure why the O2 is required for startup, however, it only affects the injection system and idle and part-throttle. Make sure that all of your connections are good...

My NA 83 starts up with it unplugged, it kind
of idles smoother, but that is because for some
reason my engine is running rich and unplugging
the O2 sensor helps it to not run so rich.
It has to do with the signals sent to the
brain.
