So here's my story
I'm a college student in Connecticut and am planning on being a mechanical engineer.
I heard about the new car company, Daewoo, giving away new cars for free to college students for 3 months. How could I possibly pass up a deal like that? What a great winter beater....
So they hook me up with a new car and I'm going to pick it up friday. While signing papers the representative asks me if I want to go to Korea to learn more about their cars and marketing strategies( I get @ 500 dollars everytime my advertisements lead to a sale.)
So here's the really awesome part:
I'm going to be in Korea with 160 other college students from around the country (mostly california and florida). The rep. told me that past groups who went spent the whole time drunk and naked. I don't even care about that because I get to tour all their auto manufacturing plants. I also get to learn everything about the automobile industry in the U.S. and talk to some real geniuses. The guys there have like PhD's in car everything.
I leave Jan. 3 from JFK airport in NYC and I'll stay for 5 days. I can't wait!!!

Wish me luck, hopefully this will lead to a fruitful career in the automobile industry....

Good luck,I hope it works out for you.I've sold cars the past 7 years and let me tell you a $500 commission on a new car that sells for under 20,000 is awesome. Most salesmen only average about $250 per new car and that is including factory spiffs.Minimum commisions at most dealerships range from $50 to $100 .I can't begin to tell you the # of over $30000 cars and trucks I have sold over the years and only made $100 commision .This sounds like a great opportunity, and just think, you dont even have to go to Canada!!! P.S. you will have Zcar withdrawl symptoms !!! Later, norm

Antony,
Personnally been to Seoul several times. You will know when you are approaching for landing because you will be able to smell the country. It has a very distinctive odor. I have always claimed that it is the Kimshi but I'm sure it's something else. By the way - that is a real experience - Kimshi. It is cabbage they bury underground in jars for 6 months and then eat. They have summer and winter varieties. They also used to have Pagogi - dogmeat. I think that's pretty much gone now. If you go for a taxi ride just look around and you'll notice none of them are dented - that will help you relax some.
Have fun - it can be a great place - especially if you're in the market for eelskin products, brass or furs. Be careful of what you buy though - lots of seconds on the market.

Smart marketing

Yup, that's pretty smart marketing. People are much more likely to buy a car that their friend shows them and tells them what a great car it is. Most college students don't know of the dismal reliability record of Daewoo automobiles. They were first sold in the U.S. as a Pontiac LeMans in the late 80's/early 90's. Maybe they're better now.

Thanks for advice guys (more about these cars)

That's true about Daewoo making the Pontiac Le Mans. I don't know what the reliability of the le Mans was but it didn't sell for nothing.
Daewoo's been making cars for 31 years. They are actually really good now. Seriously, the exterior is designed by the famous Italdesign,
Mercedes engineering under the hood and Porsche designed suspension. The lowliest car right now even has multilink suspension, stainless steel exhaust and leather seats.
The amazing thing is that all their cars are selling dirt cheap. In the future they will have a sedan that will rival the mercedes 500SL selling for $30,000. They can do this because they make the cars in Korea and sell them without dealerships and middle men( straight from the factory).

The funny thing is, the real salesmen don't even work on commision but the students who get referred when someone buys a car receive 300-500 dollars.

Yeah, I can understand why you said that earlier, no hard feelings?

Tony, I was looking at AUTOMOTIVE
NEWS today and they had a story on
Daewoo. It turns out that their first 3
month of sales have been pretty
bad. They had only sold 1700 cars
nationwide and 1000 ofthe cars had
been bought by the college student
reps at discounted prices.They were
hoping to sell 100,000 first year
here. You still should try and make a
run of it,but you might not want to
get your hopes too high!!! It will still be a terrific learning experience no matter what happens with company sales. Best of luck,Norm

That's strange....

When I was at the store a salesman told me that they are selling more everyday and that they are the number one retail dealership in the country right now. Mayber I heard wrong. So far I'm pretty impressed with the car they gave me. It's their bottom of the line sedan (Lanos).
105 HP, which isn't nearly enough considering it's a small car that weighs 3500 lbs!
But overall everything is really good quality.
I'm gonna double check about the weight of the car, that seems too much.
I'm sure that I'll have a great time in Korea.
I'm gonna soak up so much information about cars and love every minute of it. Later.
