My bro really wants a 280ZX. There quite hard to come buy in the UK. He has seen an Auto 2+2, which is the only drawback to me. I really would have preferred him getting a manual. The body work is good, so I guess this is the one he will go for.

What are the Autos like? Are they that much under-powered? He eventually wants to fit trible webers on it, and gas flow the head. Will this set up work well with an Auto?

You can tell i don't know much about autos!

We saw my favourite shaped 280zx the other day, 2 seater no targas in red. It was a right dog though rust and holes everwhere. In an ideal world I'd love him to get that in good condition and a manual.

All your thoughts appreciated. Should he go for an auto?

If it were me I would pass on that car. The auto is slow enough as it is but to add to the fact that its a 2+2 means its going to be even slower. I've driven both auto and manual Z's off all years and the only auto Z that I found to be just as fast as the manual was the 90+300zx twin turbo automatic. Basicaly it comes down to this, if your going to be racing or wanting to go faster get a manual 2 seater but if your just looking for a nice Z to cruise in then any Z is good. From the numbers I've seen for a 280zx 2+2 auto, it won't even beat a stock civic in the 1/4 mile. Just be patient and get the car your really want. The only auto 2+2 I would consider would be a turbo. So good luck.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE IT

If you haven't drivin one don't knock it... the 2+2 280zx's have a personality all to there own... the 2+2 suto is not as slow as some might say. I drove a 2+2 around for 3 years and it was quick enough.. not as quick as my turbo 2+2 but it was till fast.. had that thing up about 230KPh at least that was how far the speedo got.. that was also in stock trim. put 215/60's on the snow flakes and boy did that thing look good and sit almost an inch lower. no civic ever beat it in a race and no car in the city beat it in looks... when I did race it all I had done to it was a MSD ignition(plugs and coil) it would squeel the tires occassionally but never roast them. I miss that car but I love my new found speed and acceleration in my turbo 2+2

DON'T UNDERESTIMATE AUTOMATICS! I HAVE A 280ZX TURBO 2 SEATER AND IT IS FASTER THAN MANY PEOPLE DRIVING STICKS. SAME YEARS IN TURBOS. I WOULD PASS ON THAT PARTICULAR 2+2 Z. IT WEIGHS A LOT MORE THAN THE AVERAGE Z.

I WOULD GET THE AUTOMATIC TURBO. IT'S KNOWN TO BEAT THE 5SPD TURBOS! IN THE 1/4 MI. AND ALSO, U COULD EAT WITH NO PROBLEM IF NESSESARY.............VRROOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
