Don't hold your breath...

Someday, maybe I will have an opinion....It has been back-ordered for three weeks now and they just put off my ship date another week. Sucks.

Re: Don't hold your breath...

I got the header and had an old turbo exhuast from MSA. The header isn't the best quality (thin metal) but worth the money. The turbo exhuast isn't that great good mandel bend pipe but again thin metal. Arizona Zcar has good looking header for about same price

Re: Don't hold your breath...

Well, I have had 3 different headers and I find nothing wrong with the ones I got from MSA. They all had the same thickness pipe, and I don't see how that matters much if they flow. Mine haven't even gotten hot enought to boil off all the paint so they are okay. The important thing is how they mount to the head so it doesn't warp, and I am satisfied there. I have the 2 and a half inch turbo exhaust from MSA as well. I have never seen any exhaust to have any thicker pipe and my dad and I have been restoring cars for 25 years(Rolls, Mercedes, Corvette, Pierce etc.). If you want thicker pipes, go to Home Depot and buy some chain link fence poles, that ought to do it. And the bends hardly pinch the pipe, and at 2 1/2" who cares? Especially a 2.4liter motor. I have a 3.0 and it is plenty. I did not like the muffler that came with it, so I used a Flowmaster for a Mustang, but I think I will add a resonator (too loud, but good sound). The price is right, and it was easy to install (both header and exhaust). And if you really like your car, you will do a better job yourself than some buttcracker at the local muffler shop. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. Good luck, Z-cars are worth it!

Ok heres the deal, I have an exhaust leak and also I'm trying to fix up the car as a daily driver and add some performance to it. I'd like to get a header with a 2.5" collector and a 2.5" exhaust. What are my choices??? I want the same thing as you guys, good quality header & exhaust, and a good sounding exhaust, all for a decent price. I don't care to much about emissions and a "little" fabrication is ok. Thanks for the input

I second Zbartsky's sentiments...

I too have the MSA 2.5" deluxe exhaust with MSA header. Got it jet hot coated to match my coated intake and heat shield. Loud and resonant at idle, but that's due to the straight pipe running directly under the driver's seat...will probably put a resonator in there. Sounds great at high revs and, for what it's worth, a couple of performance guys I know said the header appears to be a quality piece.

MSA header's are okay, if you want the best get it from Nissan. Regardless I highly suggest you get it Jet Hot coated. It will look real nice and last just about for ever. As a matter of fact I think there is one for sale in the parts section for like $75. That's cheap!!! If you truely want a good exhuast, find a good shop that will fab the pipe for you and then you can pick whatever muffler you want. Other wise the MSA system is OK.

I have the MSA 6 to 1 header

and I am very pleased with it. It has a 2 1/2" 3 bolt flange outlet. You will get a 2 1/2" mating flange and pipe and a adapter for a 2" pipe to hook the exhaust to the header. One thing it does'nt have is the port for the egr tube. (in VA, where i live, we do not have emissions testing)
The quality of the header and flanges are very good. I installed it with the motor out, so it was easy. Luckly there is a kick ass custom exhaust shop 2 blocks from my house.... the installed the mufflers I bought (dynomax ultra flo bullet for a resonator and a supertrapp at the end, all 2 1/2" ID) and custom bent the 2 1/2" pipe from the header back. They charged me $73.00 for materials and labor. It looks perfect, looks like it grew there!
The two mufflers cost around $150.00 with shipping from Racesearch.

Re: Don't hold your breath...

If your building a racer than go with the headers, if not just put a 2.5" exhaust with a turbo muffler. Take the cat or premuffler off which ever you have. I had a muffler shop in my town do the whole job for $85. Mandrell bent pipe aluminum and the turbo muffler. You might have to check out afew shops to find one that will bypass the cat or premuffler, but you will find one. Good luck Chuck

So I should get the nismo 6-1 header? I thought about it and sent them an e-mail, but they haven't replied back. Do they still check their e-mail??

If you search the posts here, you will find a number of people who wish they had only gone w/2.25".

Most of the resonance is gone with this size.

At 2500 rpm (and I have this problem on my '75 that is about to get a small block chevy) there is a very lowud resonance, particularly if you don't have aresonator in the tunnel.

If you're not going to go whole hog on the engine (cam & rpm), 2.5 is a waste and weighs more - the worst of both worlds.
