What is the proper operating temperature for an '82 ZX ? Mine warms up to about 205f. I think that is too warm. Please advise.

Around 190 - 200 degrees, the center of the stock gauge, is normal. The engine has to run in that temperature range for 40 weight oil to break down and circulate properly. '82 280ZX's have engine cooling problems in hot weather and/or slow traffic because a limited amount of air can get to the radiator through the stock grille. If your cooling system is working properly and your car edges up to the boiling point, try an auxiliary electric radiator cooling fan. You can also go to a larger capacity, 4-core radiator for around $240. My '82 non-turbo coupe has both.

I've had 5 ZX's in the following order
80 NA
81 NA
82 Turbo
83 Turbo
82 Turbo

The one I have now really amazes me, I runs at 180deg in the tropical weather we have here in Puerto Rico.
the temp # come from an autometer temp gauge i have in there
All previous 4 ran in the middle of the gauge
