Old VIN not searchable by Carfax?

Hi,

New here...I'm trying to check on a '73 240 with VIN C0000Z. I can't seem to pull up information on it. Anyone know any history behind this car or how I can figure it out?

That is not a 240Z VIN. It should start with 'HLS30', found on driver's side dash, or stamped on the firewall right above the master brake booster. Another note, you can not get a car-fax on a car this old, must be after 82 (thinks) with 17 digit VIN.

I have a 79 280ZX and its vin is also not searchable by carfax...I suggest you contact the previous owner and talk about the history...then call the owner before them....and before them...
Got the VIN now: HLS30155545

Sucks that there's no car history check service available for it.
If the car can't be checked on Carfax, how do I verify if the title is not salvage or anything?
I do not know about the other states but in Kansas there should be about two or three lines on the title just under the owners name that explains that the car is not longer titled as salvage. That is what it says on mine.
This is the brown one in Walnut Creek isn't it?
IMO carfax is a waste anyway. Do you have the title? Then swell. So it makes note of everytime it took a emissions test. I wonder if it had been in any wrecks if that would even show up? Supposedly too it is supposed to keep track of any mechanical work. I don't know. personally I don't put much stock in it.

Yea
The title won't tell you much, you need to do a thorough inspection before making a judgment call. The car looks good in the pictures, but you never know.
BTW, the ad states it has a clean title.
From the VIN I can tell it is a 73 240Z made in about May of 73, but that's it.

Carfax isn't a magic bullet. The ONLY available information regarding accidents, flooding, etc are those that the insurance companies bother to report to Carfax. It takes a level head to look into the nooks and crannies to determine if the car is fit. Most folks get caught up in the emotion of buying a car and only SEE the real issues long after the cash has traded hands. A clear title means he has it in his hand to sign over to you as a buyer. The possibility that a 'Car Title' loan has been done is questionable as I don't know if those shady operations actually require a title-in-hand to make a nefarious loan.
