I have a 280ZX Turbo block from an automatic car, which uses an external oil cooler. The adapter for the oil cooler has the oil filter by-pass made into it and the block has a plug where the by-pass would normally be installed. The blocks in 5 spd cars(don't use external coolers) have the by-pass in the block like all the other engines. I want to use this engine in a 5 spd 240 conversion. My question is has anyone removed the plug and installed the by-pass. I've purchased the by-pass but cannot get the plug out.

Thanks

Don't worry about putting the bypass back in. If you change your oil and filter regularly and run 5W-30 oil in sub-zero winters you should be ok.

Why not use the oil cooler

I have the same block in my 240.

I used to oil cooler. A transmission/oil cooler w/ acceptable size passages can be had for very cheap.
