My own problem with this is that, while I have my a/c certification and have rebuilt the climate control systems in various cars, I haven't worked on the _automatic_ climate control system in the 280ZX, only the manual system. I could answer your questions, but I have a deep aversion to talking about things that I have no direct experience with, and I will have to defer to whatever information any other religious-quality source such as the factory manual will provide. I just don't want to be wrong. If I were to give you information about the system on your car and it were proven in the end to be misleading, that would be no service to you or anyone else, and I'm just not gonna do it. What we have here is a problem where the factory shop manual is rather poorly written and sketchy ( on this subject, ) which is quite uncharacteristic of Nissan shop manuals. If you wanted to be your own judge as to reading between the lines of a rather nebulous technical description such as Nissan provides, then read Dwiggins for background. ( That book is well worth owning, BTW. )
Beyond that, I apologize for keeping silent, but we all have our standards that we choose to live by, re. conduct in a forum like this. I'll respect yours if you respect mine.
