I'm not sure about the 280z but on my 260 if the heater stops working the first thing to check is the little vacuum hoses on the passenger side of the engine compartment. If you have a leak in one of those hoses, then you get no heat, and some fresh, cold air through the center console vents.

no heat in the 77 280z. have not had a chance to look into it but wanted t osee if anyone had an idea of what would cause this. besides not turning it on of course heheheh.

Yeah, its problably the vac lines.
Check the ends of them and make sure none of them split. They may look like they're good but then have a small leak which makes you get no heat.
