hey everybody, I'm sixteen and purchased my first car, a 280z. I think I got a steal at $1800 with 150,000 miles. I bought the car this the summer, but have it sitting in the backyard so it doesent kill me on the icy roads or get any rust.
this car has no power, steering, windows, and locks. it has no driving aids. I love it!!

I'm wondering what little things should I do to better my z and keep it runnning great

Any time I get a new vehicle, I change the oil and transmission fluid/gear oil right away, and check all tune up parts, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, and make sure the fuel and vacuum lines are in good shape, check the brake fluid and clutch fluid, if manual, make sure its clean, antifreeze is bright green, maybe flush the radiator if its dirty... pretty much just make sure all of the maintenance is good and up to date, and keep the maintenance up on it. Don't keep it sittin in the grass for too long...
"This car has no, power..."

go to www.xenon.com...goto appropriate ca...select reference tab...download the free FSM (factory service manual). Read it cover to cover, then come back and ask questions on what you didn't understand.

You are wise not to take it out in wet weather. The ass end likes to flip to the front when it is wet...not fun, especially coming down a curvy mountain.
yea, the car can drift along corners even in dry weather. probably not good for the tires though
So they might as well just unsticky the "message to newbies". Seems that not one newbie reads it.
There you go, Ribby, absolutely correct. We got kids who apparently do not know the pos from the neg pole buying Z cars for $200 and want us to just tell them the answer while the mods chase the knowledgeable guys off. Then there are the People WITH zcars who think they are worth $12,000. Algore was right...what was up is down and what was down is up.
the kid is just looking for some friendly advice...no need to be mean to him. you people must have horrible lives or small man parts if you get kicks from putting people down on the internet. if you don't like his question don't answer it with your o so important knowledge that is a hassle to share. i am sorry you have fat ugly wives but this kid just was happy he got a new car and wanted to be part or a community...imho...
haha thanks kal, I knew there was no way I could say what I said without people commenting that ignorant things. that xenon site is stellar though thanks

So we can assume by the tone of your post that you also have a horrible life, small penis and a fat ugly wife? If you don`t like the responses shouldn`t you also not respond? I love these contradictory posts.

If you guys think there was anything "mean" written here, you`re in for a very rude awakening in life.

2 posts and you come across with this? There are forum rules and should be read instead of just scrolling down and clicking "agree". You should read them, along with the message for newbies" We're not here to kiss your a$$.
theres been one good response, the rest are just trolling
Well pilgrim, apparently you just don't understand the dynamics of zcar. You apparently also do not understand that while it is one of the few cars left that can be worked on without a computer engineering degree, it is a complex piece of machinery with a list of idiosyncrasies.

Many of us here have been involved with them for 30 or more years. You apparently also do not comprehend the number of 16 year olds who have lately come into possession of said complex piece of machinery and have this misconception, that while a very formidable foe in its day, can bolt on a few magical pieces of aftermarket speed equipment and suddenly be blowing the doors off of Ferraries and able to actually fly if the wind is just right.

You also have not been privy to the discussions of the educational miscarriage of our country where children are not taught math or critical thinking, instead they are drilled on the test questions and which answer to regurgitate. They do not want to search for and learn answers, they want it given to them. While we enjoy sharing our knowledge, we also expect you to seek and learn first.

And as Ribby said, "If you guys think there was anything "mean" written here, you`re in for a very rude awakening in life." For Pete's sake...life?..., they are in for a rude awakening if Tony gets a hold of him.

So congratulations on your purchase! Read the FSM, post some pictures with your problem...just don't expect magical answers. There aren't any.

Part of what I like to do when I get a "new" older car has all ready been mentioned, changing fluids checking brakes etc. What I also like to is simply clean the crap out of the car. By doing this you go over every square inch and lean allot about the car.
Search always good... and your ? been covered so many times

I just typed new 280Z owner in the search box up there and I got a lot of answers.

I think its great that a 16 yr old. has saved 1800.00 to buy his first Z car!

hes young, im sure he knows how to read...

why not try and help a boy out?

only knowledge!!!!

God! just answer the Kids question and kindly refer him to the search button. No need to bust his chops. People get so uptight about newbies coming on here and asking questions. The fact that the Kid is 16, bought a Z for his first car and is excited about learning. He should be rewarded not scolded!
No one scolded the kid...You guys got your panties in a wad and made a bigger deal out of this than it was.

But when you make an obtuse statement like this ...without even the first picture....

I'm wondering what little things should I do to better my z and keep it runnning great

Then you get an answer that requires you to put in some thought...

go to www.xenon.com...goto appropriate ca...select reference tab...download the free FSM (factory service manual). Read it cover to cover, then come back and ask questions on what you didn't understand.

You are wise not to take it out in wet weather. The *** end likes to flip to the front when it is wet...not fun, especially coming down a curvy mountain.

That is not busting his chops. Or did you guys subscribe to the Bush Obama Educational method of appearance of education is everything, actual education is a thing of the past.

Listen Palladin you and I both have been on this site for quite some time. You know aswell as I do. When new people come on here. They are beaten down for asking nieve questions. Like I said kindly, refer him to the search button. You responded and gave the kid some useful information. The comment wasn't directed soley to you. Rather the [email protected]$clowns that come here and make it there right, to beat up on every newbie that torques his bolts down too tight!
I don't post much on here anymore for various reason's. I have been lately, because i've missed the site. Alot of it has to do with Mod regulation. It is the way it is for now. Not apologizing for anything. I'm rather respectfully responding to your comment.
