I need for everyone to write to Nissan and tell them that the Z-Concept car engine should be a six cyl. and not the four that is out of the 240SX. The Z needs an engine that will be able to keep up with the American and Euro performance cars out there. If the Z takes the path of a small engine then it will have a hard time being taken seriously and end up being grouped with cars that are just for transportation and not for what the Z has stood for in the past: the ultimate, the final word. The Z-CAR should have a larger engine on the order of 4+ liters. Please write Nissan and let them know what you think bad or good. before it goes into production and we have no more say! From the pictures I have seen it appears that.... well.... there is no style to it. It almost looks like a long CRX. When the 280's were being produced emission standards were tough and yet Nissan still produced a very impressive car for the time, but it was that beautiful style that made the Z's a good seller. Today there are a billion cars that look just like each other and it would be a shame to see the Z's look just like everything else on the road. You can spot another Z on the road a mile away from any angle, most cars nowadays you can't tell if its a Camry, Tempo, Maxima, Regal, Lumina, Cavalier, Altima, Taurus, Escort, or Contour - and after it goes by, sometimes you still can't tell !!!! Although I would love to see Nissan build a Z that would blow the doors off a F-50, they are going through a tough time right now and the new Z may make or break them - so performance is out the window because they have to stay affordable - but for god's sake make the **** thing look good !!!!!!!!!

Options....

I was recently talking to the sales manager of one of our local Nissan dealerships and he was telling me that oversease Nissan usually offers three to four choices of engines in their cars. That may be the greatest boon to the new Z. Start off with a car that MOST of us can afford and not something that is out of reach for the average guy. That is why the original 240Z took off. An affordable car that handled well and went fast. BY NO MEANS could it blow away the muscle cars of the time. I dont know where you guys get that idea. Pull a Corvette with a 454 next to a stock 71' and it will make you cringe when they are done. Nissan is doing the right thing by sticking with a lower priced engine to begin with. I think Lestat hit it right on the nail head when he said they should just offer bigger engines as an option. Hope this opinion doesnt piss anyone off..... if so well TOUGH... Hahahahhhaah Zya guys...

Look, we know what they're going to do. Just as with the first BMW Z3, they'll introduce the cheap underpowered version first to test the waters. If it sells big and customers demand more power, they'll come out with the correct engine later. They just can't seem to commit to a first rate car until they get the financial reassurance that it's going to sell big - then they'll correct the problem and jack the price out of sight. - John G.

I think the front is too tall, makes it look less like a sports car. Other than that I like the way it looks. Should go with the straight six, or v-6.

Well... we could always do a V-8 conversion on it

And I know a lot of Z purists hate that. but really Nissan has always been guilty about thinking that their cars are on a different level than it is. Look at the Maxima, they claim that it is better than the 4cyl Accords and Camry. But yet you could buy the base GXE Automatic for around $18K thats only 500 more than a 99 Accord LX, because they know that the average consumer looks at the Maxima as the same level as the Accord and Camry. The new Z should just be SIMPLE 6cyl no frills no thrills just performance and no power windows, locks, talking cars. Stop comparing it to the class of Corvette, it is up to the consumer to upgrade the performance to supercede the Corvette. Then the company should just make a perfomance option like turbo, all wheel steering, power package, tire package and so on. Just remember to keep it simple like the original thinking when the first Z came out.

and i still own about 3 nissan cars today
i think the new Z car is going to also fail
the test i dont like it my self
what the **** is NISSAN doing i think the are
becoming GERMMAN AFTER ALL

New Z

Gee....... The lower front looks a lot like a Mitsu Eclipse... As others have said, we won't get what we had. Just like the Celica fwd and all the other lost souls.. Sorry, I will restore my 78Z back to new condition myself..

I couldn't agree with this guy more. I may not have two zcars in the yard for parts, or owned one since 1970, but I do love my '78. Let Nissan do what it wants(it is going to w/ or w/o your letters). If the car has made it to the concept level than it is probably going to be produced in the same form. It is not that big of a deal.

Personally, I would rather spend my time getting more power out of my own z, than trying to tell Nissan's overskilled and highly paid engineers how to do it to a car that isn't in production yet......

It seems to me that some are confused about just what the spirit of the Z car is. The original Z had 150 measley HP, not exactly a muscle car. At a price of around $3000, it sold like hotcakes because it was a fun to drive, no frills sports car the average guy [or gal] could afford. That's the direction of the Concept Z. How many here are going to shell out $35K for a Japanese sports car? Haven't we already seen the demise of the Z, the RX7, and the Supra in that price range? Nissan would be ill-advised to take a trip back into that neighborhood. Honda is about to pull 240 horses from 2 liters and 4 pistons. If Nissan can put anywhere close to that in a package as compact as the Concept Z it should have plenty pep. I'm not the least bit interested in another sports car that everyone admires and nobody buys.

How many people would *want* power windows? If you've
ever had an old funky car, you grow to appreciate simplicity.
Less things to go wrong is the key. That's why I picked the Z
when I was looking for a sports car.

I don't mind if the new Z-Concept turns out lame.. and I won't
be surprised if it does. It'll just make the originals look nicer.
