Canada is a democracy with socialist, communist (as in community), capitalist etc processes and institutions (to varying degrees)... we have a pile of corrupt leaders.

USA is the same

Britian is the Same

China is the Same

Italy is the Same

Nigeria is the Same

Russia is the Same

ALL ARE JUST DIFFERENT FLAVOURS

WRT pollution, just because it was localized in more visible and tangible forms in the past does not mean it is not a problem now... that is simply out of site out of mind thinking... look at what the scientists are saying... look what they said about smoking, look what they said about seat belts... to me it is a no brainer... we live in a "confined space" go research confined space procedures for going down a manhole then sit and think for 30min.

Back on the topic, mpg on Z's AND power can be improved with better EFI controller such as megasquirt.... reduce pollution and enjoy the benefits!

I can tell that you have never met people that have escaped Russia, China, Eastern Eupope, etc. By best friend can tell you about escaping from the socialists in Germany and another about escaping from Russia. Just another flavor? Not when they are comming to kill you and are comming after your family.

The Z will never reach the efficiencies of newer cars, never reach the safety levels of newer cars, never reach the passenger survivability of new cars. A "no brainer" for a "concerned" government is to simply ban them.

Be careful what you ask for, Blue.

Nah,
some of the worst polluters I've ever met live in western Canada. Open burning of trash, what doen't burn gets pitched straight into a ravine. inneficient wood burning heaters, older truck that smokes (worse than their smoldering trash pile), waste water drains down the side of another hill without being "purified" first. He tells me he's moved "back to nature"....

Owning a new SUV would actually cut his net pollution output!

cville300zx & Hybrid77Z how old are you guys?

Hybrid, careful when you challenge people because you will get it back in spades (read TonyD's sig about fastest then sit and think about it for 30min).

You just happened to hit a sore spot by digressing to personal attacks rather than sticking to the thread's topic.

WRT your insinuation I do not understand how the world works through friends..... I have friends who defected from Cuba, and Czech Republic, in fact there were probably more Eastern Block defectors in my home province than in all of North America. My father met the first man in space at the same airport that was the common point of leaving.

When I worked in a hospital, I met people who were in Nazi concentration camps as well as German and Allied soldiers.

I went to school with Iranian's who escaped from Iran during the Iran/Iraq war and I was with them when they received letters about losing family and friends.

My wife's close friend was raped by american soldiers in Chile in the early 70's during regime change when she was only 10 years old. Her father defected to safety in Canada with the family.

My best friend's dad did over 50 missions in a Lancaster Bomber.

My cousin was a peace keeper in Serbia

I have friends who are Vietnam draft dodgers.

I have friends who are in Lebanon now.

I dated a Palastinian once.

I befriended a nice old Englishman when in Ireland who was a WWII POW from Africa and was in camps in Italy and Germany.

I have friends who are priests

I have friends (not intimate) who were prostitutes.

I had male and female room mates from Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Israel, India, Hong Kong and Algiers

I have lived with druggies

I have lived at a school of theology

Please don't accuse me of not understanding my point of argument nor having experiences to back it up... now can you be man enough to put this to rest and stay on topic rather than digressing into nonsense?

OK Blue, I'll agree if it will make you happy.
We'll agree that the Canadian government is no different than the US (or Serbia, Lebanon, or WWII Germany for that matter). All are the same, just different flavors, right?

You got it! majority are a pile of crooks or spineless weenies who can't lead nor make sound decisions for the good of the many and can't see in black and white, only gray. Differing degree's of evil and differing degrees of pain to their citizens and skapegoats but the mechanisms are the same.

Bottom line:
Greedy liars get in power no matter what you call it.

But if the US has a president with a spine, who can lead and make sound decisions for the good of the many irregardless of pollitical fallout and is able to see things in black and white, does not drink or smoke, faithful to his wife and family, and does what he says he will do....

I bet Blue would still find fault with them, LOL.

"I bet Blue would hate him too, LOL."

What put me over the edge with that fellow is that he believes the Earth was created appx 10k years ago, by God, as per Genesis.
I don't understand how people can respect someone who holds such a moronic, uneducated belief.
To be so ridiculously deluded and blind and ignorant to the counter-evidence does not speak well for a leader of nations.
Furthermore, he believes this ridiculous flight of fancy should be taught in schools as science alongside evolution. That way our children won't be smarter than we are and prone to painful questioning.

This isn't to say that I'm a Kerry fan, or a fan of any other politician. In fact, I didn't vote for either of them. I didn't vote for Kerry because of his ridiculous healthcare plan. With nationalized health care, my taxes would go toward paying for the health problems of the inflated number of retarded inbred degenerates who are fat, slothful, and addicted. Why in the holy living **** should I pay for other people's mistakes when it comes to taking care of their own bodies? Why should I be punished when people choose to smoke or eat copious amounts of McCellulite? Why should I be taxed for their health needs when I'm completely and totally healthy? No sale.

But you folks go ahead and worship your idealogues. Saint Bush is not worthy of praise, neither was his competitor, and nor is anyone else in power for that matter. It amazes me that educated, intelligent people can be swept up in this left wing/right wing BS propaganda and wax poetic about one rich moron while decrying a veritible carbon copy of said rich moron. Anyone who thinks ANY politician who rises to power is working with the NATION'S best interests in mind needs to look at how he himself lives his life, and ask himself what HE would be tempted to do if he were in a position of power. Most people are weak and cannot withstand the temptation of the many satans that will arise to offer you money, power, fame, dominion, contracts, etc. This is exactly what we see in politics: weak men being led around by their genitals and mouths.
And the few worthwhile individuals that I'm sure make an attempt at politics are almost certainly dragged down by the others who don't want the temptations and rewards to stop.

We're dealing with men, here, not saints. Let's keep that in perspective before we genuflect in front of the idealogue whose lies are most convincing to us, and curse the name of all other idealogues whose lies aren't quite as convincing.

I never mentioned Bush, it was hypothetical.
Turn on the vent in the paint booth next time.

THAT is why the US has a "ballance of power" to tie up those with super egos from going too far and a Bill of Rights to tie the hands of the Government even more.

Yeah I am a critic but I also pat backs!

I see the good and the bad and can resolve them. I don't like the crap luking in between.

If you want to look at your presidents recent decisions... look at the closing of military bases in USA and opening of new US Bases in Iraq?

Looks at the savings of $50Billion for closing them in the USA and in the same week the US Dept for Defense asking for $50Billion more for Iraq. <http://www.reuters.com/financeNewsArticle.jhtml?type=bondsNews&storyID=8490634>

Don't peg me as a US basher as I think our Canadian Govt are just as bad.

We have a huge scandal underway where the past Liberal dictatorship let millions get embezzled.

We have had Quebec born leaders for the past 35 years. **** there is even a Quebec political party who's sole purpose is to split Canada.

Pretty much every civil servent is French or speaks with a poor English accent.

To be in Canada is to endure the insane lack of balance and fairness due to political correctness crap.

With respect to pollution and power consumption, were are nearly if not the worst per capita in the world!

There are problems and there are solutions!!! Our leaders have to get down to business and do their jobs not piss in the wind.

**** if man kind could build a Saturn V rocket to get to the moon, we surely can build powerful AND fuel efficient engines!!

lets stop the political debate about our governments

I am a republican, but I voted Libritarian, because I disagreed with some stances of Bush's politics. It was a relief that Kerry did not get elected, but come on people lets not forget that the politicians are the worst prostitutes out there, they will sell out to anybody with the money.

Now let's back to gas milage

But ALL political leaders ride in SUV's (or things that get worse mileage)

Best line in the book State of Fear was:
“If there’s anything worse than a limousine liberal, it’s a Gulfstream environmentalist.”

I simply can't belive that on a site DEDICATED to old, polluting sports cars, that I'm reading all of this communist "I know what's good for you better than you do" BS! the last I heard this was still a reasonably free country, and I'll drive whatever the heck I want to, WHENEVER the heck I want to!

by your reasoning, the government should outlaw all cars except geo metros just because "big SUVs are dangerous and pollute! I don't care if you have six kids! fold 'em up and stack them on the roof!"

bad drivers are bad drivers no matter what they're driving. I'm sure those soccer moms would do 75+ in your tiny deathtrap honda as well.

I drive a Z because I love the styling, I frankly don't care if my mileage sucks, it's still at a level I can handle, if barely. somebody said they want gas at 10$ a gallon. well, thanks bud, you just priced me out of my Z. I'm not rich, I'm 22, and make just enough to pay my bills with a little beer money for the weekends.

I have many friends who drive trucks as daily drivers. only one has a "new"(2000) truck, and that's because he needs the reliability of a newer car and can't be fixing up a beater every weekend. same goes for those soccer moms in their brand new 40k SUVs. most of these women have no mechanical abilites and don't want to be stranded on I-5 for three hours waiting for a tow, yet need to haul their kids to school and sports games and whatever the heck else they do. besides, no matter what you eco-weenies say, big cars ARE generally safer in a wreck than a small one. it's not planning to get into a wreck, it's planning ahead for the worst.

/end rant

Fuel.... Isn't that an interesting topic.

Two ways to cut crude oil consumption:

1. Phase out gasoline engines in production vehicles, and make the new diesels also bio capable

2. Close every stinking drive through in this country!

You can get more diesel from a barrel of crude than you can gasoline, and stop wasting fuel sitting in your car! Get your fat lazy American A$$ out of your car and walk inside to do what ever business you have to do. For those fat Americans who can't stand to live without your french fries and donuts, Cool deal! Now you can help support the bio diesel infrastructure because we would be burning all that old fryer oil in our new bio diesel friendly Buicks and Chevrolets.

Is it a solution? **** no, but it's a heck of a lot better than we are doing at the present.

anthropogenic

Here is a minor problem for those thinking that man burning oils causes any "greehouse effect"

"Another area of antiquarian interest thought possibly relevant to climate science today is the dramatic warming—as much as 10 degrees celsius—that occurred very rapidly in the “Eocene” era. That was 55 million years ago. A huge and sudden increase in greenhouse gases has long been inferred as the cause, but as there were few SUVs on the roads then, the source of this increase has remained elusive"

one more thought, volcanoes put out more pollution in a single erruption than we have in all of our history. oil leaks up NATURALLY from the sea floor to create slicks in the ocean, so called "rain-forests"(known as jungles before hippes changed it) use more oxygen than they produce due to the massive amounts of rotting matter in them. (there are also more than 700 things in the "rain forests" that cause cancer, and still not ONE that fights it. eat that hippies!)
The earth does a nice job of polluting ITSELF. somehow I don't think my friends trucks are going to tip the balance and kill us all. in fact, even if we ALL drove huge 9ft tall SUVs, I'm quite sure we'd survive just fine.

More funny stuff:

"The 2004 Democratic Party platform quietly dropped an endorsement of the Kyoto Protocol, which had appeared in the party’s 2000 platform. And in an act of exquisitely bad timing, Al Gore chose New York’s coldest day in 20 years to give a speech on the threat of global warming. "

Well, I just came back to Canada from a 2 week roadtrip in my 76 280z. I basically drove from Vancouver to San Francisco and back. We had a fantastic time, we got awesome gas mileage and the Z performed great.

Some of what we noticed in the US.

Giant trucks and SUV's everywhere! Most were single occupant. We totally enjoyed the Carpool Lane since they are way less crowded and are for only 2 passengers, not 3 occupants like in most Canadian cities. Since the cars all had only one person we could go speeding past the bad traffic.

The roads sucked! Particularly the I-5, but others were mostly bad. That's one of the things that high Canadian gas taxes pay for - fixing the **** roads!

As for OPEC running the show - that's not true. Canada is the biggest supplier of oil/gas to the US and we're not an OPEC country. It's just that if the average American is using a lot more gas than ever before and there are more cars on the road than ever before - of course gas is going to be stupidly expensive!
