It's been a while since I stopped by here (at least it felt like it's been a while :) ), so I'm around seeing what's been going on. Feel I should give everyone an update on my status as a Z owner.

My S30 is still in Cali, this time, completely tarped up and awaiting shipment whenever I get to it. Stanza finally crapped the bed so I got rid of her. In her place, is a 1992 Ford Festiva with a tranny and engine swap I bought for $500.

Car's been stripped of nearly everything and the previous owner installed a quarter cage (thing weighs around 1500lbs...where's Dan when you need him!?). The battery is relocated to the back and he also did a lot of stuff, including upgrading the suspension, brakes, and even adding a 1.6 FI engine over the 1.3 carb it originally had. It's pretty fun and practical (40mpg combined), and due to the battery gone from the engine bay, there's enough room to drop a V6 (The Yamaha V6 from the late Taurus SHOs). I call it my "Cooper knock-off," but everyone prefers to call her Bumblebee and you can see why :) Not the best looking car in the world, but hey....

Seems like I have two projects to work on again, with the Festiva probably the first one I'm most likely going to tackle. With SHO V6 around $500 the most difficult thing I have to do for this swap is to track down the rare AWD tranny that came with the 323 turbos.

"Shogun" it, mount the SHO V6 in back :)

And, hey, why not just keep the 1.6 up front, too. More power and awd and still reasonably lightweight! Siamesed transmission linkages would be a major PITA, not to mention there's no way the two drivetrains would have the same shift speeds, so if you did that you might go with an automatic for the 1.6...
Pretty cool and practical little car. Maybe i need to get one. With gas prices going through the roof and all.

I would, but I'm aiming for practicality, so I would love the hatch for storage. Literally, this thing is so light I would hop into my friend's Cobalt and it would feel like a tank.
Times must be tough......

Well you can say that again.....student loans are kicking in now but despite this I'm still going to set aside a budget for my hobby....keeps me sane :)

Hopefully my software development group can get off the ground within this year so I don't end up spending the rest of my life in the food industry.
