I know somebody out there must know enough about turbos and intercoolers to help me.

I'm a manager with a manufacturing company, with access to steel fabrication tools and well equipped machine shop. I've got the hots to fab an intercooler for my 83ZX, and need some specs.

Turbos are new to me, I know just enough to know what I'm after.

Does anybody know what size/capacity heat exchanger/air cooler most manufacturers use on their units?

If I had a unit to copy it would be easy. But that would defeat the purpose of this exercise.

How about ducting and any tricks in air acceleration? Optimum air temp? Help, I need a starting point!

This may be a futile attempt but I'm hooked!

Thanks guys, anything appreciated.

I caution you in trying to manufacture your own intercooler. There is a great theory that is involved in them and you are much better off getting one from Spearco. George Spears has been manufacturing intercoolers for many years and his knowledger is vast. I highly recomend contacting Spearco and having them help you with your project. If you insist on building your own heat exchanger, George Spears may also be able to help you. He has written a manual on intercooling and the theory involved. You can reach them on the web at spearcointercoolers.com

Good Luck!!!
