I have a 1977 280Z 2+2 - my first Zcar after wanting one for over 20 yrs
Bought from original owner with 160M

No body damage
Minor rust spots on panels under the driver and
passenger side doors

Original Interior in great shape

I purchased for $2500
and have been slowly restoring
New struts, brakes, tires, belts, cylinder, etc.

A lady then hits me 2 houses down from my house.
Damages the driver side front fender
Hood has a buckle
Front bumper took the impact
Fender under the bumper - ellipse shape is bent
Windsheild cracked from my room-mate hiting his head

Of course the insurance company does not value such a car.
Even though the other driver admitted fault, they do not want to fix it.
They want to give me only $1099
Outrageous!
And they compared the value to a 1979 ZX, which is not comparable!

How can I go about providing my lawyer with documetation of the actual worth of my car? Like who would buy it?
If you van not help me, will you direct me to a fellow Z-appreciator for help?

Thank You in advance for your valued advice

let your fingers do the walking and open up the yellow pages. your objective... a collectors car appraisor... take it in and have it appraised then give the estimate to your lawer... try to find one that specializes in z's and you'll be ok. i work for a personal injury attorney and this would be the advise i would give one of our clients. =) good luck and i hope you get that insurance company for everything you can.

Leigh,
Couple things:
1) Find your purchase receipt fo the car plus receipts for the work you have done on it. Those work with my insurance company - especially if you have a photo of a nice car to go along with it. I went rthrough a similar thing with one that got stolen. I had one photo and only a list of what I had done, the receipts were in the car. I got full value less my deductible.
2) Talk to your agent and find out how much it will cost to buy the car back. If they are only going to give you $1100 for it you ought to be able to buy it for salvage for about $200. That should give you enough to fix it with used parts and, if you do most of the work yourself, actually come out ahead.
3) You might also suddenly get some sore muscles and your back might start bothering you. That is generally worth about $5,000 for you to sign the release on that one.
It's their game - you just need to know the rules.

Hello-
Sorry to hear about your car but i had the same thing happen to my car about 6 months ago except i was hit from behind. Just call up your freindly attorney and see what he says about your wreck. i did this and he called the insurance company and they fixed my old 73 240Z for 5000$ and I only paid 3500 for the car, if their is any special about the car tell the insurance company adn have them add it too the total. Has been beautiful up until today. Low 60's & sun shining. Today turned colder & rain falling. Supposed to clear some over next couple of days but be colder. They were predicting a high of 30 for next Tues. but now that seems to have backed off to mid-40's. I'm sure Jerry probably has a 3.90 for you - not sure about a 4.11 though. I know you'll call him before coming down though so that isn't an issue. Let me know if your coming down on a Sat. I'll see if I can get by his shop to say hi. If you do it mid week try to include a Wednesday. The Redline Autosport guys have their carwash meetings at 7:00 PM on those eenings about 15 miles south of Jerry's place. You could wsh your car and meet a group of young guys who have a lot of good clean fun (pun intended?) before heading back.
My beastie is running good but I'm still having cold-start problems. Replaced just about everything in the system that could affect it but still idles like crap when cold. Fine once it's run for a couple minutes. Had a little testosterone display with a 5.0 Mustang GT on I-20 the other night. I actually beat him - I think he had a sick engine.
Merry Christmas,
