Hi, I'm planning to put a turbo engine in my 280z and the question of the old motor comes up;do i keep the engine? i also am plannig to get an earlier z (70-73 240z i live in CA and those are the years excluded from smog emmission tests),and to go the OTHER way to power: cam, carbs ect. is '76 L28 a good candidate for that? please all the moguls of the z world advise would be helpfull!:)

By all means, keep the L28 motor. The N42 head is MUCH better than an N47 and with flattop pistons, you can make a great street motor out of it. The compression ratio is about 9.5:1 or something like that. A little porting, cam, header, and stock '70-'72 carbs, and you can make about 160 rear wheel HP. May not seem like a lot, but a stock 240Z is about 115 RWHP. If you want more info on building up the N42 L28, email me @ [email protected].
