I'm in the Dallas Tx area.My 280 zxt turbo is sqwealing and grinding like
like a cappachino maker and making my car smoke like a James Bond smoke screen, I think someone would have reported me but they can't see my plates. Is there anyone in the Dallas area that will switch me out a rebuilt turbo for less then it would cost me to just buy a couple of new cars? I know about the guys in Waco but doubt I have the tools or smarts to pull etc,it myself. Help me out guys or I'm going to have to start driving a pinto.

Re: My turbo is toast. Who will slap in a rebuilt

Hey Timbuktu,

Don't worry. Don't let fear get to you. Removing the turbo is not all that hard to do. Get your Hanes Book and read it. Look at the diagrams (Exploded version) to see what your are going to expect. The turbo is only mounted on the exhaust manifold, held on by four screws. You will also need to disconnect the Air Flow Meter and boot to the turbo intake. Also take the turbo down pipe off(witch leads to the throttle body. The job is much easier if you took the intake off, though. Just take your time and take notes on what you have removed and procedures. You can work from underneith and from on top. Get as much light as you can and be carefull..

Good luck!

Their's a place right down the road from me here in Grand Prairie call ScanZ and I think its a Z place. They always have racing Z's out front. I plan on going by and see what all they do, and how much they charge. I have not used them before, so can't tell you what kind of work they do, but the build racing Z's so I would assume they know what they are doing. Its off Great Southwest Parkway between Arkansas and Pioneer.

Re: My turbo is toast. Who will slap in a rebuilt

I appreciate y'all's confidence in my ability to pull this &%#%ing turbo out, however, after hearing that the dealer labor charges are $900 I have to assume that it is a major #%*+%##ing bear to take on and those guys have a lift. Soooo. Does anyone know anybody who has the right tools and know how in the Dallas area that might be able to handle it for less then a grand? Oh and thanks for the info on Majestic turbo being in Irving but I can't seem to find um yet in the online yellow pages, are they new in town?

Tim,
It's just not that hard! Do it yourself and save a bundle! If you are intrested in a used turbo you might want to check out All Z in Fort Worth ,if you can't find one in a junkyard elsewhere.
