My darling 1981 Z was stolen. The thieves pryed out the lock cylinder and now have the actual swich hanging from dash. That's fine, it turns and starts perfect. But, I drove the car my first day of possesion since the sherrif and the steering wheel lock has engaged. I have jiggled, toggled, and just about everything. Does anyone know how it can be disengaged?? I just need to get it out of a parking garage so I can put in a new column or whatever I need. Please help!

I'm not really an authority on this, but here goes. I had a '81 280zxt I was cannibalizing, and I lost the key so I couldn't tow it into the garage. I ended up pulling the molding off from around the steering wheel and unscrewing the ignition from the steering column. Since the steering lock is built into the ignition, that solved the problem pretty effectively. I don't know what you would have to take off to remove that molding without damaging it like I did, but I'm sure the Haynes manual explains it. Hope this helps!
