I have checked it at two different scales, one the the local landfill and the other at Atlanta dragway. I have always heard that zx where in the neighborhood of 2800-2900#.I thinking that there is not much of a difference in the weight of a 280z and a 280zx, a ZX might even be lighter. If that is ture "we" need to quit talking as if these cars where the Delta Burke of Z cars.

I think the 2800 pound weight published by nissan is the curb weight, with a full tank of gas, all fluids full, AC, sound deadening, perhaps even with an automatic, and all crash protection.

If you only had 1/4 - 1/3 tank when you weighed in, you "curb weight" (what all new cars are measured in) would be about 100 pounds more then the 2640 you weighed in, bringing you to 2740, close to the actual rating.

I just posted this on another thread.

My completly stock 1980 280ZX(GL) w/ automatic tranny, t-tops, power windows and mirrors,A/C,CD changer and head unit, r180 rearend, lots of rust, with no driver, no fuel, and no spare tire, no jack or tools weighs around 2700 pounds. This was at a scrap yard so the scale isnt real acurate so give or take 50.

I wouldnt dought that your car weighs 2640 for a minute. I've been saving it for years, the 280Z isnt realy that much(if at all)lighter than the "over weight" 280ZX. Its only a myth. Call 280ZXs heavy or over weight pigs all you want but its just not true.

I wonder how much lighter a Deluxe(not GL) 280ZX w/ a 5 speed and r180 rear end would be.

???

So are you saying you got about 500 lbs of crap out of your interior? I stripped an entire interior of my Z and it all probably weighs 50 lbs with the dashboard and seats.

Re: ???

How do you tell the difference between a dlx and a gl?
(seeing as some one brought it up.)

zx's aren't heavy...unless ofcourse you compare it to a 240z.
I wouldn't call call it a substantial weight difference in terms of street racing...but when your trying to shave time off the 1/4 mile an L28 in a 240 is probably the best way to go.
Other wise I suppose it comes down to personal taste.
I'd rather have the cruise control and power features of a resonably fast 280zx than a naked blindingly fast 240. Ofcourse, that's on the street.

Re: ???

Food for thought; for every 100 lbs you can drop from your car, you can also shave .10 second from your 1/4 mile time. When we start talking about 500 lbs, that translates into around a half of a second advantage, or possibly 2-3 car lengths, nothing to sneeze at!!!

On my 79ZX , I took any thing to do with A/C off the car. I also swapped the power steering to manual steering using a manual rack, so that got rid of the gear box(HEAVY piece of crap) , pump and lines. I should have weighed all that STUFF but I didn't . I would like to think I took 75 lb. or so off the car?KIRK

Re: ???

Gls have power everything and all the other luxuries. Wile the dlx as manual everything(including steering) no t-tops, no cruise, possibley no AC. basicly its a chaeper striped dowm version of alot more comon GL 280ZX

Re: ???

Is that soooo...
from what I understand you can also tell from the hood and the black (or chrome) piece that separates your windows from your rear hatch.

what about chrome trimming around the wheel well?

see my car has all the power options except for the side mirror defroster.
...but it doesn't have t-tops...is this odd?
